Are artificial limbs part of the topic of reconstructive surgery?
I’m supposed to research a topic which interests me about reconstructive/plastic surgery, so if I researched artificial limbs would that count?
Sure.
Amputees sometimes have reconstruction done to their stumps in order to allow for a better fitting prosthetic limb. Children born with congenital amputations or shortened or limb differences may have reconstruction surgery to allow for them to wear a prosthetic limb.
Some arm amputees may undergo surgery to bring muscles or nerves closer to the surface to have a better fitting myoelectric arm.
Kids with cancer may have amputations or van ness rotations.
You can always do the limb salvage vs amputation debate.
The length of the limb will impact what type of prosthetic feet or knees can be used. I had to have my stump shortened to make my knees equal and facilitate better walking.
