Nurse or Medical Assistant?
I would like to move out of NYC, but will probably be here a year or two more. Really unsure of what the future holds right now. I would like to pursue a career in the health field. I already am an Esthetician (skin care) i would like to expand on this by learning the medical side. Possibly Medical Assistant or a Nurse at a Derm practice, or Plastic Surgery practice. Given my circumstances, and the fact that my husband wants me to get a bit of experience in the field before i make up my mind on committing to Nursing Program, and the fact that I might be moving what options do I have? Where should I start. I am feeling a bit anxious and stuck.
Nursing would be the best route; you could start on your pre-reqs which should transfer if you move. Once you start the core nursing however, it would be very hard to transfer if at all. In many places there is a year + wait to get into the nursing programs anyway. You should do some general long term goal planning to help you map out a plan, as these are pretty big choices. As a MA, you would probably not be doing what you think you want to do, so I wouldn’t go that route at all. And with nursing, if you could not find a job in derm you can do something else (not all dermatologists employ nurses/aestheticians).
