Cosmetic Surgery Ukraine

why are (cosmetic) procedures to correct knock knees in adults not done in the USA? Anyone have an idea?

I’ve had knock-knees ever since I was little and now I am 30 and trying to find any place in the US where I can get my legs straightened. There seems to be a team in Ukraine and another in Russia that can do these corrections on both knock knees and bow legs, and can even do limp-lengthening. I would like to know knock knee corrections are not done in adults in the US for cosmetic reasons. I found a doctor in Baltimore, MD, but the clinic said they only performed such corrections if the patient were suffering from some sort of knee pain and needed a knee surgery. Urgh!

Do you realize they may have to cut your leg bones completely through to do this? It will hurt a lot and you probably won’t be able to walk for weeks. When you can’t walk, you are at high risk for developing blood clots in your legs that can kill you if they float up to your lungs. You will also be at high risk for developing pressure ulcers on your backside from lying in bed all day. No American surgeon in his right mind would do this for cosmetic reasons.

The other issue is how your knees will adjust. If you are fully grown, your knees are going to have problems adjusting to their new angles. This isn’t really a problem if you are already having a knee replacement (like what the doctor in Baltimore indicated), because they can fit the joint replacement to the bones to get whatever angle they want.

When you see a surgeon in the US, the surgeon is required to tell you about all the likely risks, so that you go into the surgery knowing about all the bad things that can happen. Do you think you’re going to get that same kind of information if you go to Russia or the Ukraine? What if you have a bad result? What are you going to do? Sue them? Good luck with that….
