Becoming a Cosmetic Dermatologist in Arizona?
I decided to pursue a career in cosmetic dermatology because surgery isn’t something I would love doing. Am I wrong to assume there’s no surgery in cosmetic dermatology? Or is there very little?
Also, what kind of education would I want? I know from medical school and beyond but I mean the first four years. Or should I do a few more years and get my Master’s degree in science instead? Is it worth the extra schooling and money?

There can be surgery if you want it, but it would all be outpatient and quite minor, probably using only local anesthesia.
You would want first to get your bachelor’s degree (4 years), then medical school (4), then a derm residency (4 also I think). You can major in whatever you want during undergrad as long as you take the prerequisite courses required by medical schools, take the MCAT, do the usual premed extracurriculars, etc.
required courses listed below. Take them at a 4-year university; medical schools frown upon taking them, especially the ones requiring lab, at a community college.
1 year general chemistry + lab
1 year organic chemistry + lab
1 year physics + lab
1 year biology + lab
1 year calculus/statistics
1 year English
some schools require a semester of biochemistry.
A Masters degree is not theoretically necessary; however, right now dermatology is one of the most competitive residencies to match into, and many successful candidates have taken a few years to do research in the field before matching. Some even have PhDs. You will have to be a stellar medical student to make it in, so be prepared to work incredibly hard in medical school if you want to have a chance. And have a backup specialty in mind. Good luck.
